I think the card is dead ... although they are pretty hard to break.

Watch out for the four position switch ... the 9600 comes in two flavors and 
the non-Kansas (i.e., /233 and below) machines require a different setting 
than the Kansas (i.e., /250 and above) machines.

The two valid switch settings are UP, UP, UP, UP and UP, DOWN, DOWN, UP.

Some of these cards have failed caches.

A card with a failed cache will work in a non-Kansas machine because these 
machines have 512 kb of cache on the mobo. But the NewerTech INIT will report an 
error nevertheless.

A card with a failed cache will not work on a Kansas machine, as this machine 
expects the backside cache on the processor card to be good.
