When I put the 180 card back in though, I had to zap pram about 6 times to get video. >> Ten times is what I have found to be required. Know one seems to know why, but even the Beige G3s require ten PRAM resets in order to come back to normal. >> Since I didn't go to that effort when I put the G3 card in the 9600, I may try one more time, though I'm quite happy to take the 7600 to work. >> It will work if it worked in the 7600. >> Do you think it's possible it's because of the dead battery in the 9600? >> Yes, definitely >> Or do you think the cache may be failed, as you suggested could be a possibility? >> The cache is good because the NewerTech INIT didn't report a cache failure on your 7600. You cannot remove the cache on your 9500, but you can (and should) disable it once you get the machine working. You're almost there. BTW ... UP DOWN DOWN UP is supposed to be for the Kansas machines, while UP UP UP UP is supposed to be for all others, including your 9600/180 and your 7600. FWIW ... the 9600/200 and below is just about the best and most cost effective machine to upgrade to G3 or G4. Huge power supply, great case (the best one Apple ever made), place for seven drives, etcetera. Upgrading a Kansas machine (8600 or 9600 300 MHz and above is not very cost effective). -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
