I've a PowerMac 5400/200 running OS 8.6.
I installed a Belkin F5U005 USB PCI card in the PCI slot, along with the appropriate Apple USB driver software.,1.4.1. The card is a USB 1.0 standard. All the box copy claims that it'll work with a PCI PowerMac running OS 8.6 or better
Well, it doesn't work. In point of fact, with the card installed, along with the USB driver software, the mac won't even boot. If I pull the card, the Mac boots. If I trash the USB driver, and leave the card in place, the Mac boots. One oddity is that, with card and USB software installed, even attempting to boot with extensions and control panels off, via holding the shift key down at boot up, the Mac still won't boot. I have to boot from a CD in order to trash the driver software!
I THINK the card is at fault, as there is no power getting to the optic mouse apparently. The LED doesn't light, so that's what leads me to think the card is either dead or not compatible.
Can anyone give me some help on this problem? I've a really nice USB 3 button/scrollwheel mouse that I'd like to use with my mac.
Right now, installing OS 9 is not doable, as I need more RAM to properly handle OS 9.
Sincere thanks in advance to any and all who can help me!
