upgrading to 9.1 from 8.6 is quite painless. USB2 devices will not work at USB2 speeds; some will work at USB 1 speeds. This is complicated by the fact that the USB marketing groups just jiggered the specifications so that sometimes USB2 refers to USB 1 devices. <Sigh>

That's what I'm hoping for: that this USB 2 CD-R/RW will just work. I don't care if it is slow; at least it'll be better than what I had before: nothing.

On the bright side, if you install CD Authoring and Disk Burner form the 9.1 disk, you probably don't need toast, if your drive is supported.

Yeah, I read that somewhere. Fortunately, I didn't pay very much for the Toast disk, so if I don't use it, I won't be out all that much.

If you do install both Toast and Disk burner, be aware you'll probably have to rename your Toast CD driver extension with a space at the beginning to force it to load before Disk Burner and CD Authoring, so that both will work. There's an Apple technote about this issue.

Good advice for which I thank you.

I don't know where I'd be without this list; probably lost like a newborn lamb in a pack of wolves.
