Wow, that was a quick leap based on little data.  The gray label iMac 9.1 
install disk is a universal install disk (CD version 1.3), as OWC implies:
"System Requirements:
      Mac OS-based Apple computer that has a G3 processor stock OR has a G3 
or G4 Upgrade installed."

It's a heck of a price.  It recently took me from from 8.6 to 9.2.2 on a Umax 
S900/XLR8 G3.
A breeze.  No iMac files.  No problems.  No public indictments.
