Well, I wouldn't call the difference BIG, but it does have a noticable effect when back and forward-paging. I would say the difference in loading pages is negligable, but I tried it since I have 320mb of RAM to play around with and don't do any intensive work on the Mac. My setup is a 2 gig hard drive with 2 partitions, one at 500mb at the beginning of the drive for virtual memory and the rest of the drive for the system and files. That works just as well and the 500mb partition helps keep fragmenting to a minimum, though I do find that the RAM disk works slightly better when hitting the back or forward button. I use the 7300 Mac primarily for email and web browsing and my much-more-powerful homemade PC running Mandrake Linux 9.1 for burning cd's, scanning photos, etc.. I would imagine the cache in the RAM disk would work better in a Mac with faster, more powerful memory, say DDR instead of SDRAM memory, knowwhatImean? ................................Mike T.
