I'm using a 250 MB scsi drive as an external to my 5400/200.

This drive was the internal drive for my Mac IIsi, (My first Mac with a color monitor!) which I got 8 years or so ago as a used machine. It's been either the internal or external drive for a metric crapload of Macs since then.

It's outlived two enclosures and is now in a third.

Don't worry too much about wearing out the HD. In fact, you stress the thing more by turning the Mac on and off, than you do by leaving it spinning.
