I got the 9.1 updater downloaded from Apple, ran it as a test on a hard disk
on which I have 9.0.4 this way: I started on another hard disk on the 7300
(G3 XLR-8 334 MHz 350+ RAM) which had a perfectly good 8.6. I selected Base
All for exts and restarted and then installed the 9.1 update on the other
internal HD which had 9.0.4). Took longer than the 12 min it started to
claim. Even seemed stuck for a while. I hit the enter key a few times - and
it continued on! (No, I don't particularly think there was a connection;
just looked like it). I restarted on the relevant HD and it was 9.1

My questions:

(1) Is this the correct procedure when not starting from a CD?

(2) When I came to use Photoshop on which I have various actions previously
recorded and associated with various function buttons (eg. I usually hit F1
to bring up the resize dialog box, a commonly used feature). But now a
notice comes up to assign the function keys - it is a system function, not
to do with PS. I tried in vain reassigning keys to actions in PS - this time
by (what a nuisance) using option+command+F1 in case F1 on its own is
somehow reserved for use by the OS 9.1 system (after filling in ITS dialog
box). No go. The box still comes up inviting me to assign things to function
keys! And simple system things only - nothing to do with PS - like open an
app.

Am reluctant to use just yet the updater on a 9.0.4 HD on my 7600 where I do
work for a living and which works so sweetly. Still, I will want to update
when I find out a bit more.

There are many other little things ... let me just mention another:

(3) Why does a notice come up after start up on the 9.1 saying that my
Quicktime did not load because it is out of date when it was perfectly good
before (5. something)?

Appreciate any advice ...
