my OsX went bonkers( overlapping files), and like a dummy, pd $49.00, so apple told me I have to do a complete reinstall. Ran Norton 8.0, and It fixed it. The lastest version, 8.0, works with everything back to OS version 8.1. This is my story. So, I wouldnt live without norton, myself........

I have heard Norton Utilities maligned quite frequently lately, especially since people have started using the latest version of VPC, XPostFacto and other hacks to allow their PCI Macs to run other operating Systems. Some people claim that Nortons Utilities creates more problems than it fixes. The Norton website still claims that NUM is the best program for fixing up files on an ailing Mac.

The Disk Utility in OSX seems to be much improved compared to Disk First Aid from System 9.1 and below, but I'm sure it can't do everything. The ReadMe with the Disk Utility says that for serious repairs it may be necessary to resort to the use of a commercial product, but makes no suggestion as to which commercial product Apple approves of.

(I would like to apologize right now for the last word in the last sentence in the paragraph above. I know that the use of dangling participles is frowned upon in this List but the sentence grew awkward and unwieldy as it progressed and I had to finish it off somehow.)

Seriously, folks, is Norton SystemWorks 3.0 a program to be avoided ???
