That's interesting.  Maybe it's just the Jaz 2GB.  I've found them to 
be slow.  I havn't had any experience with the 1GB disks.  Zips work 
great, I have  only had one go bad over about 10 years, and that was 
just recently.

I always thought the Zips were Iomega's iffy project - at least the 
cheaper IDE ones.... Click of Death anyone? :>

Seriously though, I have an external Jaz 1GB along with 9 disks 
(free from a computer store), and for writing it seems to be around 
the same speed as a Zip drive.  Reading is much faster.

An example:

Copying 216.6MB of assorted files from a Jaz disk to a folder on my 
desktop:  1 minute.
Wiping the Jaz disk and writing the same data back to it:  2 minutes.

This machine is a Beige G3/300 with 288MB RAM running 10.2.6, so I 
don't know if that is skewing the results or not.  Once I tried 
copying ~330 MB, and it claimed to take 30 minutes.  I didn't time 
that one, so I'm not sure exactly how long it took.

I'll probably be buying an internal 1GB on Saturday.  A local used 
computer shop is selling pulled Jaz drives for $10.
