Hi

I've acquired a 7600/132 upgraded to a G3/300 (sonnet) and it has been
working fine for a couple of weeks. Today when I started it I was very
It booted, showed the MacOS 9.1 logo, loaded the extensions and when
the screen went blank before it should show the desktop it just
stopped, showing the MacOS default background. It is just as the screen

I still have a naughty 7600 doing the exact same thing, however I think I have pinpointed the problem. I have done everything you listers suggested, didn't help. I have formatted the drive again, hooked it on another computer, copied a clean system on it and put it back in the 7600 and it was working fine. BUT! when I attached an external SCSI ZIP drive on it and started the unit it didn't finish booting and gave me a BUS error each time I tried. Yes, the ZIP was properly terminated and a disk was in the ZIP drive. I shutdowned and on the following restart without a ZIP drive I got the blank desktop again with the exact symptoms as before. I suspected a hard drive failure so I took another (known good) hard drive and repeat the whole thing. Reformat, copied the system from another machine, reassembled, started and all was well until I tried starting the unit with a ZIP drive on external SCSI port when it gave me the bus error and on all following restarts I have the blank desktop again.

Where do I hunt the rabbit for?

Oh, the desktop I'm copying the system from is a 4400 with freshly installed Mac OS 9.1.

Regards,
Boris
