You can always grind off the wire leads with a Dremel tool and a cutoff wheel. The wires are welded on. Right now, there are literally millions of wired 1/2AA lithium cells on the surplus market, but I've not seen conventional 1/2AA lithiums in similar quantities for quite some time.
