Aha! I was a'feared of that. Ok, I'll have to adjust things accordingly. Geez, no wonder it's running a little warm.

I personally don't think the stock door fan on the 9600 is adequate once you have begun to upgrade. The fan I upgrade to is a 120mm Sunon KD1212PTB1-6A. DC 12V, 5.4Watt. I got this 6 amp Sunon fan from One Cool PC http://www.1coolpc.com/ I don't know if they still carry it, but if not, the YS-TECH 120x120x38mm 4 Wire 131.5cfm ball bearing fan that they carry should work.
This fan plugs into one of the power connectors from the power supply. Don't plug these larger fans into the motherboard.

I think I'm going to agree with you on the fan issue - I verified it was on a 12v rail, and noticed no drop in CPU temps. I fabricated a duct to route air from the fan directly over the CPU, and did get a decent (7'C) drop in idle temperature, but the temperature still spikes at the same peak when the CPU is under load. No doubt a combination of the cheesy heatsink and the weak fan.

Thanks for the links and the information on the fans, and especially on the bottom drive tray. I really appreciate it :D

When you say you routed a duct to route air from the fan to the processor, does that mean you have the fan blowing air into the case? The door fan should be blowing air out of the case. Once when I removed the fan to blow out the dust I put it back the wrong way. Luckily I realized it soon after.

Hold everything here, you guys. The side door fan on the 9600 must draw air INTO the case. Hot air is exhausted out the top rear by the power supply fan.
