I'd be interested in what fan you used on the door.
I'm wondering if the stock fan runs on more than 5 volts? my 9600 didn't have the fan or the header or anything when I first got it, so I picked up another 9600 door with the fan and duct. I still didn't have any way of connecting the fan to the motherboard fan header, so I hooked it up to the 5v rail on one of the drive connectors. It occurred to me that, were it designed to run at a higher voltage, it could still operate on a lower voltage it just wouldn't turn as fast as it was designed. Regardless, I'd be interested in the side cover fan you used, at any rate.

The stock fan is a 120mm 12V, not 5V. The fan must not be moving much air. Though red on the drive power cables is 5V, on fans it only means positive whether it's 5 or 12V.
