So... if I find a generic NE2000 driver for
MacOS... the card should behave itself? (the
working one I mean). I'm not too interested in
using BeOS or the like on my Mac, as I've got a
PC for that ;) To me... my Mac wouldn't be a Mac
without MacOS.

I'll hunt for an NE2000 driver for MacOS.

One of the problems might be that the 21040 is,
at least traditionally,
called the 'DEC 21040'. The driver might be
listed as DEC or DEC compatible.
The DEC 21040 is related to the DEC 21041, and
they may be compatible, not
sure offhand. Certainly, the driver for BeOS
covers both of them.

The Realtec 8029 chipset is NE2000 compatible,
and should work with any
generic NE2000 driver, if that helps.

The thing you'll have to be careful about with a
PC PCI card is that the Mac
PCI bus is not necessarily compatible. IIRC the
PC PCI bus is quirky (many
interpretations and dodgy/lax implementations,
bus speed hacks etc), and
Apple only followed the theoretical spec rather
than the factual one. Don't
Mac cards need to be PCI 2 complient too, or is
that some other platform?!?!
