i guess that's what i love about plain text email clients i'm using ms exchange in windows 2k and it goes a treat.
that's something i want in my future mac email client - plain text only. any graphics or html come in as separate attachments. ---------- From: Bruce Johnson Sent: 17 February 2004 00:17 To: PCI PowerMacs Subject: [PCI] Re: <bleeping> [PCI] header On Feb 16, 2004, at 4:41 PM, Fluxstringer wrote: >> Bruce asked; >> >> What mailers are people using that they cannot do this sort of >> filtering? > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > I haven't had success with filters . We're talking about two very different things here. Subject line or header filters work very well on stuff like list e-mail since the mail headers are predictable. SPAM, on the other hand is not predictable. That requires a whole different approach. see here: <http://www.paulgraham.com/spam.html> for a somewhat technical explanation of the process of filtering spam that is most effective. Here is a less technical explanation: <http://www.pcwebopedia.com/TERM/B/Bayesian_fi lter.html> Basically the system tries to quantify 'spammishness', what we can look at and immediately identify this message as Spam, and that message as from Aunt Gloria who's fallen in love with blinking, gif-laden html templates for her e-mail. This is the technique that Mail.app, Mozilla, Eudora, and numerous other anti-spam technologies use. > -- Bruce Johnson University of Arizona College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group Institutions do not have opinions, merely customs -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
