You can get the PM 5500 manuals in PDF format from http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=50020. There is a technical reference there too.

Thanks for the link. The tech info PDF says the GPU is an ATI Rage II with 2MB of SGRAM supporting only 16-bit color at 1024x768 (max).
It doesn't say whether or not the CD-ROM is SCSI or what IDE standards are supported... But PIO Mode 4 at best would have to be my guess.
