Don't even go that far... if Mac and PC are both connected to the same HUB (be it switching, standard or a router), simplest solution is to turn on ICS on the PC (Internet Connection Sharing) and point the Mac at the IP address of that PC. ICS always uses 192.168.0.1 as the main PC IP Address sharing the connection. Do the following: 1) turn on ICS, in XP you go to "Start/Settings/Network Connections", select the connection (DSL dialler?) and hit "properties". Select the 'Advanced' tab and check the box with the description "allow other computers on this network to connecto to the internet using this computers connection" - this is the middle option on My XP install. You may need to reconnect the DSL connection for the settings to be made active. 2) Go to the mac. Open the Network configuration control panel. Select a 'manual' connection. Give toyr Mac an IP Address that is in the range '192.168.0.2' ... '192.168.0.255', I suggest the former. Subnetmask of '255.255.255.0' - some may argue '255.255.0.0' is more useful, but this is a two machine network.. Gateway is 192.168.0.1, DSN would be the same too. ICS will act like a DSN server (will let the pass through and route them back) unless you've locked your XP box down really tighttly. It allows them by default. Alternatively, if the Linksys is connecting to the internet via DSL happily, you can probably just get away with settitn the Mac to 'DHCP' rather than 'Manual' and this should work if the Linksys is set up to do DHCP properly. Basically, go route one if you're confused... it will work flawlessly. Go route 2 if you do not want to rely on your PC being on to surf with your Mac.... I personally use Method 1 because I have a USB DSL modem and no USB on my Mac. Hope that helps, Matt -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
