The intial clicking sounds, btw, were the logic and head actuator self-tests.
I don't know if it makes any difference, but the drive doesn't just make one or
two click when you first turn it on. Instead it makes a rapid, soft,
clic-clic-clic-clic-click sound and will do so indefinately, until I finally
turn on the Mac and have it spin up.
I can't check to make sure at the moment, but I think it then stops and reverts
back to its constant clicking when I turn the Mac off.
If it's doing it continuously while the before/after the mac is booted, then there's perhaps a problem with the drive logic. Might be a good idea to keep good backups and work on obtaining a replacement drive.
