Thanks to Charlie and David Elmo for solution ideas. I may retreat to PS 5 on this machine. There are cool features in 7 namely the "Save for Web" function in question but if it doesn't work well...
that option is also in PS 6, you can also choose to install image ready - that does the same thing, if
I remember correctly Image ready is also bundled with PS 5.5
