Greetings,

I have a Photoshop problem which does not happen on other machines leading
me to suspect it's system or hardware related. I'd appreciate any ideas
outside of "buy a whole new machine."

With Photoshop 7, Cache Level set to "1", IGB of partitioned scratch disk.

Working on, say 1.2MB RGB files at 72 DPI, the operation "Save for Web, or
"save as" is, as it should be, almost instantaneous, but only for the first
use in a work session. Thereafter the process begins to slow. The
degradation is progressive, taking longer and longer to open and save files.

By the Tenth or eleventh operation in a session I am waiting 20 seconds or
so for the "Save As" directory to open or for the file to open in the
"Optimize" window and another full minute for the "save to" window to appear
after optimization.

This is just wrong.

If I shut the program down the process starts all over again, one good fast
save then progressively slower saves.

Clearing all cache between saves does not help.

Reloading the program did not help.

I can't batch process because I'm not doing any one set of operations
between saves and must often change the naming convention for each file.

I've disc doctored, tech tooled and optimized all disc partitions.

My system, OS9.1, 8600/300 with a Sonnett 500mhz G4 upgrade, 1GB ram,
Seagate 10 GB, ST318436LW harddrive.

As always your input deeply appreciated,
