Maybe:

1. Set up the child's computer how you want.

2. Hook up some burner directly to the 7200 and burn the System Folder (as
updated to 8.6) onto CD (using bootable option boxes on your burn software).

3. Bob is your uncle

Or, maybe better, this:

1. Install the 8.5 onto a clean partition on your imac HD or onto another HD
(external perhaps) and update to 8.6

2. Make a bootable CD from this partition

3. Bob is your uncle again

When you burn, you must choose options (or do other things) to make it
bootable, you can't just have a system folder in data format and expect it
to boot, it won't. If you don't want the hassle, You CAN simply make an easy
to make unbootable data CD with the SF how you want. Name this System Folder
"Gleaming New Hero SF". Come time to tidy up the carnage, do this:

1. Insert the data CD on the 7200 CD drive.

2. Copy the folder called "Gleaming New Hero SF" from the CD onto the 7200
HD anywhere (well, anywhere outside the violated, sullied, bloodied and
staggering but not completely bowed System Folder)

3. Eject CD and shut down.

4. Now boot the kid's machine from any bootable commercial CD (does not
matter what it is) or any other HD. If you have trouble, using the C key
technique, just boot up from the HD again and with the valid known to be a
good bootable CD inserted in the drive, set the Control Panels/Startup Disk
to CD and then mouse over to Special/Restart

5. Restarted you will now be operating from the CDs system OS (no matter
what it is). Open up the kid's violated, sullied, bloodied and staggering
but not completely bowed System Folder and trash it and empty trash.

6. Rename "Gleaming New Hero SF" as "System Folder" (no quotes of course)
and make sure it is at the top level of the HD.

7. Set the Control Panels/Startup Disk to the HD and restart.

8. Bob should be your uncle again
