I downloaded the BBEdit Lite (6.1.2 actually), it's free, and it worked for me. After I got and tried the BBEdit Lite, someone else here offered me another suggestion which I tried -- "just for the hell of it" at that point -- and that worked too: Make a RAM Disk, copy my ClarisWorks 4 onto it, launch Claris from the RAM Disk and then open my "impossible" document under Claris. Anyway, the way it looks from the BBEdit Lite ReadME is that "full" BBEdit" had to be purchased, but BBEdit LITE is free, so I see no ethics problems with it (or with anything that says "freeware" -- if they tell you it's free, what's the problem?). But since the Lite did what I needed, I don't see any reason I would need the full version, especially since the only thing I needed it for (or expect to ever need it for) is to open documents my Claris won't. I got the free BBEdit Lite from the lister D.F. Manno who posted the URL to me. Here's what he (she?) said: <The only drawback is that 6.1.2 is the last version, as it's no longer being developed or supported. But that shouldn't be a problem--it's as rock-solid an app as I've ever seen.
