Sounds to me as though the file has become corrupted or ClarisWorks has embedded a bunch of "info" in the file that causes the odd memory need.
Hopefully not. :(
Yersinia, worst case - stuff the file and email it to me if you'd like. I have older ClarisWorks and other tools here. I can munge it a bit.
