What is this "multi-port card to "gang" modems" business? Two possibilities at least. (1) Still only one connection (ie. one 22c call) is made to your ISP. In this case, can't see how downloading one file from somewhere could be faster? (2) One connection is made for each modem. You need as many phone lines out of your premises as modems. Now I can see how two separate files on separate web pages in separate browser windows can downloaded simultaneously faster (the bandwidth not being split now). But by this stage, ADSL on one line becomes attractive You said in another post, Jeff: > And yet the largest bottleneck to fast data transmission remains the very > medium through which it is transmitted...... Not sure why the "yet"? Must say, I don't know what the result would be on our 56K modems if, somehow, all the worlds underground copper wires were replaced with high quality well insulted brand new of the same. Of course, there is little incentive for any such renewal given the extraordinary cleverness of ADSL which uses the same lines with such speed.
