I suspect the driver is lying to Remote Access to make the service look better than possible.

A slow connection can be the result of equipment noise on the user side of the telephone service interface (that grey box outside your home). Caller-ID add-on boxes are particularly bothersome. I disconnected my service at the interface and ran a line directly to my Robotics modem. The modem "Phone" jack then connects to the wall. This way my house jacks are fed from the modem and when I'm on-line, the phone circuits in my house are isolated...dead. My connection speed went from 28,800 to 49/50,000. :-)

This totally ignores the fact eluded to in my previous post also, thatI tried all of the Best Data drivers I could find and they were slow , slow, slow .

I don't care as much about the numbers. I care about how fast , for example , my start page loads. Or how fast a constantly referred to web page loads.

And I have experienced no faster page loading on dialup connections than what is provided by the Earthlink driver.

This is also the case for my US Robotics Sportster 56k external on my 9600.

The original poster asked about a Best Data 56k v90 external modem. I do not have a 5400 as he does. But I feel my comments were entirely relevant. And as predicted in my first response on the thread the numbers I gave would be challenged. Thanks for fulfilling that prediction ; - ) LOL !
