Give it a year. 802.16a WAPs are starting to ship. Your ISP can put one in, and cover the whole town. 70 Mbps, 30 mile range.

Your ISP should already know about 802.16 (also called WiMAX)... There's been a lot written about it in the networking trade journals. Googling on "802.16" finds a lot of good info.
Typical with new technologies, the costs start high then fall fast as companies get on board. Intel is making a WiMAX chip set.
Probably a very good idea to work with your ISP on this. These unlicensed wireless technologies have such potential ... expecially with consumers offering free/cheap attic space for repeaters & WAPs. The Bells and Cables are working hard behind the scenes to crush them...
