But what I'm looking for is a neat PCI toy to play with. I'm not looking for computing power. We already have a 450 Mhz B&W G3, a 1- GHz G4 eMac, 500 DV SE iMac, 1 GHz G4 iBook and a Sonnet-powered 800 Mhz G4 Daystar Genesis MP 800+ (the last two being mine and the rest belonging to the wife & kids).
Last week I saved TWO 7300/180s from certain premature burial (landfill) and have been playing with them. I got EIGHT matched 64-Meg DIMMs from the LEM SWAP List for $5.00 each and a 300 Mhz G3 NewerTech processor upgrade card on eBay for $25.00 (should arrive Monday or Tuesday) but I think I will give the 7300s away and look for ONE REALLY GOOD 6-slot PCI Mac to play with. I was offered a 7600 today but isn't that more or less the same as a 7300 but with a 5 MHz faster bus ? I am familiar with the 6-slot Tsunami board (I have one in the Genesis machine) and am wondering if the earlier Tsunami 9600 would be better to play with than a later faster Kansas 9600. I vaguely recall that there were video and memory problems with the "Mach 5" 300 and 350 Mhz models (and with the 8600s, too). I only want to buy ONE 9600 or whatever so I don't want it to be the wrong one. > > From: "Mike T." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: 2004/06/18 Fri PM 10:20:40 EST > To: "PCI PowerMacs" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [PCI] Which PCI Mac is BEST ? > > Check out Low End Mac (lowendmac.com), they have an exhaustive > collection of articles and descriptions of all things Mac. > 7300/7500/7600's are great, very upgradable.
