The 8600 and 9600 use the very same case. Same case, same space.

There's a black plastic spacer at the bottom rear of the case when the
shorter 8600 mobo is installed [ * ] .

The higher-end 9600s, such as the 300, 333 and 350, came with a Zip.

All 8600/9600 cases have seven drive bays (four up front): 1) a 3.5"/1" bay
for the basic hard drive in the "penthouse", 2) a 3.5"/1.6" bay for the basic
floppy (will accept a 5.25" drive if the "pin" on the cover is shortened), 3) a
5.25"/1.6" bay for the basic CD-ROM, 4) a 5.25"/1.6" bay for the optional
Zip, 5) a 5.25"/1.6" bay for the optional tape drive, 6) a 5.25"/1.6" bay for a
hard drive in the "basement", OR, 6) a 3.5"/1.6" bay for a hard drive in the
"basement", AND, 7) a 3.5"/1.6" bay for a hard drive in the "basement".

[ * ] Note that the 8600 motherboard uses the same form factor as the earlier
desktop motherboards. Therefore, it is possible to install an 8600
motherboard into a 7500 case, say. However, the 8600 and 9600 use a different powering
scheme, so a 7300 power supply will be required in place of the, say, 7500
power supply.
