Hi again,
after a lot of tampering with the innards of my PM9600 and with the software settings, I've narrowed down the source of the problems with Cubase VST and my two Yamaha audio cards (DS2416 "DSP Factory" and SW1000XG "XG Factory"): it's OMS.
Moving the two cards, along with another Yamaha I/O card (AX16-AT), in the three bottom slots (D2, E2, F2), definitely gave stability to the system (they communicate a lot between them, so putting them all in the same and less busy PCI bus made sense to me). But I'm in Cubase and the ASIO driver of the two cards is active, if OMS is active too, Cubase crashes, especially when MIDI data are streamed in (it always crashes in this case). If OMS is deactivated, though, all works beautifully, even if tons of MIDI data are thrown in. No crashes!
And...
I found this note in the DSP Factory FAQ:
"Q: When I use Cubase and the SW1000 or the DS2416 and input MIDI data, errors occur in part of the data.
A: Errors tend to occur when you use a SCSI board. Try to reduce the load on the computer by reducing the number of audio tracks, removing the PC board, or using IDE instead of SCSI."
Now I'm considering to add a PCI IDE controller and a IDE disk... even if this will put more strain on the PCI busses. Is the Sonnet Tempo Trio worth considering, or should I go for something less exotic? Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance for any feedback! :-)
