I found this note in the DSP Factory FAQ:

"Q: When I use Cubase and the SW1000 or the DS2416 and input MIDI data,
errors occur in part of the data.

A: Errors tend to occur when you use a SCSI board. Try to reduce the
load on the computer by reducing the number of audio tracks, removing
the PC board, or using IDE instead of SCSI."

Now I'm considering to add a PCI IDE controller and a IDE disk... even
if this will put more strain on the PCI busses. Is the Sonnet Tempo
Trio worth considering, or should I go for something less exotic? Any
suggestion?

The Sonnet Trio has some compatibility issues. It may not be a problem in your system, but it also might. I suspect that the IDE cards whose firmware was written by Firm-Tek all exhibit these issues and the Trio is amongst those cards.

They are generally good cards, but in a system which already has compatibility issues, I would hesitate to add one. On the other hand, if you can buy from a place with a 30 day money back guarantee, and test it out in that time frame, it's worth a try.

I like the Acard brand IDE cards for rock solid stability. For example, the AEC-6280 is nice and costs about $75.

A slot saving card I have been tempted to try, but have not, is the SIIG USB/Firewire/100 Mbps Ethernet card. It's not made for a Mac, but the USB and Firewire bits should work wtih the Apple drivers and the ethernet part is based on a Mac supported Real Tek chipset.
