Consider the fact that OSX and OS9 are two very different operating system, you can't really make the assumption that one is slower than the other. As far as I know, you can't put OSX on a PCI PowerMac (unless it's at least a G3 or have an upgrade card). Also, whether to put OSX on your Mac has to do with the type of work you do - if all you do is e-mail and word processing, I wouldn't bother. However, if you do development work, OSX is definition worth moving to because you have a more robust OS and also have access to a lot of the UNIX tools and applications. It all depends on what you are going to do with the OS. I have machines that are running OS9 and will not move to OSX and I have machines that are running OSX and will not have it run in OS9 (unless I absolutely have to, and that's rare).
