Hi all, Is anyone out there running SBC/Yahoo DSL on a *stock* 9600 box? I think I've finally talked myself into getting DSL, but have spent quite a bit of time this week trying to find someone in their tech support department who can confirm that it will run on a 9600 box.
Their website says it will run on a "PowerPC," and then they furnish "G3, G4" as examples. The thing is, I believe that my 9600/350/384 is faster than some of the early G3's and see no reason why their DSL would not run on this box. And yet when I ask their (alleged) Mac tech support people about this, all I get is a hesitant "it.......*should*......run." I actually asked the several techs I spoke with, "Um, can you maybe AIM some people there and ask if anyone's ever dealt with an end user using a 9600 box?" No luck. So...if anyone out there is doing this, I'm sure they're subscribed to this list. I would be grateful for any experiences or insights you guys could share. I'd also like to hear from people regarding their experience with SBC/Yahoo tech support. I get the impression that they're routing at least some of their calls to India. This is fine by me, if the people on the other end of the line a) speak (passable) English and b) know (somewhat) more than I do (this requirement in particular is *not* a stringent one). But a couple of the folks I spoke with could not fulfill even these basic requirements (i.e. I don't need the bleedin' SBC website read back to me over the phone!). I'm trying to figure out if this would be the Shape of Things to Come if I take the plunge. Best, James Fraser -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
