Well, I did stop it. Yes, it recognizes it and formats it. I can write to it. I am installing OS 8.6 on it and will try running it for a bit like that. What it did on the HP a420n is allowed me to do a system restore which is my only option for reinstalling a system without buying an OS. Gawd why do people by these boxes? But crashed during Windows XP Service Pack 2. And would not reboot. Again, this was a replacement sent by HP for what there support staff diagnosed as a bad hard drive. New update, maybe the damn thing is bad. The OS 8.6 install just said there is not enough room, says I need another 2485099K. That's on a 160 gig drive that the Mac formatted to 137.9 gig. Sounds like HP needs to send me another drive. Sorry for the OT. Would still like to know how long the LL format should have taken.
