Try a PRAM zap. The monitor size settings are stored there and if it gets corrupt it might munge things.

Try booting off a CD-ROM. From there you could try changing video resolution using the control panel on the Harddisk.

The 7600, like my 7500 can display up to 1152x870 with the stock 2Mb VRAM. And that's at 16 bpp. No, that's not the problem.

 Odds are it's the monitor, either not able to display higher
 resolutions or it's mis-configured.
