Hi Listers,

Problem with installing OS onto 7300/G3/160/2

This unit came with a monitor that I wanted so I've never started it up
until today. There was no OS on the 2 Gig HD, so...

It starts up fine with an OS9.1 CD, initializes the 2 Gig HD fine, but as
the installer goes to work it stops about half way in and goes dead. I've
tried leaving it for a very long time (1-2 hours) just to see if it was
doing something, but it never finishes. I've tried several times, and also
tried OS8.1 and 8.6 -- both do the same. I've also done low-level format --
seemed to be fine. On repeated attempts the installer seems to hang at
different points (sometimes 5 minutes into it, other times 15... and so on).

Disk first aid says the HD is okay. Once the installer hangs (I don't know
how else to say it), then sounds of transferring data stop (as long as it's
installing there are positive sounds coming from the CD and the HD). The G3
card is an XLR8 266 I believe -- other than that I don't know the machine
and am not familiar with the 7300.

What's up?

Rick
