All I know about NTFS is it's Microsoft's proprietary format, so you
won't be seeing read/write access on a Mac anytime soon. OS X had
read-only access, but you can mount the volume under the Terminal for
limited write access (so a dual-boot X/9 system might be viable; X for
network access and 9 for daily life).

As far as OS 9.1, though, I haven't heard anything about that. You
might be able to access it over a network with read/write access (if
you've got the permissions) if you can get your Mac talking to the
Windows server. Windows 98 PC's can read NTFS over a network even
though Win98 has no NTFS support of its own, and Mac OS < 8.1 can read
HFS+ over a network, so I think if it's over a network, you might
(might!) not have problems. Of course, connecting a Mac to a Windows
network is a whole other challenge of its own.

Your best choice might be trading files on a USB key or--gasp--floppy
disks! (I knew there was a use for them still!)
