Does your provider use DHCP?
If so, there are two solutions. One is to set Internet Security to Medium.
This allows the DHCP broadcasts, but the firewall still blocks NetBIOS
access to your computer from the Internet. In addition, you remain protected
by ZoneAlarm. Only those applications that you approve can connect to, or
accept connections from, the Internet.
You can set the Security level for the Internet Zone in ZoneAlarm's Security
panel.
The second solution is to identify which of your ISP's servers are being
blocked by ZoneAlarm, and to add them to your Local Zone. This allows you to
keep your Internet security setting at High. The best way to identify your
ISP's DHCP servers is to call your ISP and ask for their IP addresses. You
can also review your Alert Log text file and look for alerts that seem to
occur on a regular, periodic basis. Note the IP address of the remote
computer and add it to your Local Zone.
Here's how to add a trusted Host/Site or IP Address to your Local Zone:
1. Click on the "Security" button to view the expanded Security panel.
2. Click on "Advanced".
3. Click "Add".
If you know the domain name of the site:
4. Select "Host/Site".
5. Under "Description", enter a description for the site.
6. Under Host/Site, enter the domain name for the site. For example,
"session2.callwave.com" (no quotes).
7. Click "Next".
8. Click "Finish".
9. Click "OK".
OR, if you know the IP address:
4. Select "IP Address".
5. Under "Description", enter a description for the site.
6. Under IP Address, enter the IP address of the site. For example,
"127.0.0.1" (no quotes).
7. Click "OK".
