Clint, this sounds like a good time to clean up your system.  Wipe it and 
start fresh.  As for the windows update, it goes down sometimes, if you're 
having a lot of problems then likely your Active X control is corrupt but 
the site still thinks it's fine which is typical of Active X.  I've never 
had any problems with Fireworks interacting with all the other garbage I 
drag my system through continually.  You've stated numerous difficulties 
with IE on your system in the past, so it sounds like you should take this 
as a sign that there's more here than what meets the eye.  Backup and 
cleanup.  Just my 2 cents.
