Yes I formatted after Fdisk. 8+ gigs.  Tried to install win 98.  CDR101 error.
C:\ dir = 1.9 g's.
Suspected cable. Called Comp USA - 0.5 meter 68 pin  Male to Male cable = $85 !
Turned cable around. Using center connector and end connector (vs end to end)
turned upside down to match pin 1 to pin 1.  All's well with the hard drive now.
8+ gigs.

Cannot install windows.  CD 101 error. Tried booting (installing on boot) from
CD. etc. Can't load CD (DVD) drivers from FD either
Can boot from FD OK.
Maybe a configuration SNAFU.  I'ma working on it...
but I'ma start'n to hate computers ... Ahhhhh ! :)
