Hi Carol,

A good thought, which led me to a dialogue box page I hadn't seen before, but nothing 
there was checked. Checking/unchecking
(with reboots) didn't work for me but many thanks for the tip.  If you've any other 
thoughts I would be pleased to hear .
Help tells me that not only can I not create a Restore point, none has made since the 
re-install of WinME, so there's nothing
to go back to!   I still have over 3 GB on Drive C, so that shouldn't be the cause.    
Failing a cure, I'll have to
re-install again so any further advice is very welcome.
