Hi Carol,

I thought I had it made. Following your lead, I was lucky to find someone with a
similar problem just resolved. From this
I discovered that the problem was with smgr.dll in Windows\System. It should have
been updated from v 4.90.0.2533 to v
4.90.0.3003 and this hadn't occurred during the M$ download and install, even tho the
new version was in two other places on
Drive C. Windows wouldn't allow the old version to be deleted or replaced, as it was
a "sharing violation". Acting on
advice received, I downloaded the SR update again, but still the old version wasn't
replaced. I then rebooted into DOS, and
replaced the old file with a copy of the new version.

However, while this _should_ have solved the problem, I still can't create a restore
point, and none was created on the
reboot. I guess I still have another problem somewhere else......

Jim
