ORIGINAL ... <clip> ...conclusion seems to be that if I want to make changes on 100 pages that are already online, I have to do it one page at a time. What I have backed up can be changed all in one shot with find/replace but what's online, where each page is on its own editor (for example in GeoCities), has to be accessed and changed "one page at a time" ... somehow I feel that's what you are all saying.
CLINT says ... No, as long as your host has FTP access, you FTP (download) the pages to your HD, then change them all at once. Then FTP them back online. This is like a new subject: Question ... how does one use the "Re:" in the subject line (when the text in the subject line seems to be enough) to better understand the sequence of postings in PCWorks? And Re the original problem, your answer above is very encouraging. It reads to me that it *IS* possible to make the changes that are online all in one shot using "FTP" ... I know that stands for "file transfer protocol" but do not know how to use it. Seems if I knew that, I'd have marginwidth="50" substituted for most of my blockquote's on all my pages "all in one shot" I already have the pages on my HD (in a word document with all the html tags in place) ... that's my backup. Exactly what are you asking me to download from GeoCities ... where each page is spelled out on its own GeoCities editor and then saved to their main site, where a teeny tiny part of it is mine (well, almost mine). Speaking to a FTP newbie, how would I do that? How would I make one change on all the pages in one folder that is in the File Manager of a GC website, and do it in "one brief shining moment"? If it can be done, please let me know (it would be a great help); if it cannot be done, say so and so be it. The world will still go on ... Harold B.
