In short, yes. I've done many comparison tests and the software firewall adds a bit more security.
For the most part you don't need one....the HW firewall is adequate in most cases but there are one or two tests they can't pass. Outpost or Sygate added to the HW firewall passed all tests. If you want the BEST protection you can get, use one of them along with your HW firewall. Zone Alarm is OK, but it's a massive resource hog compared to these two I mentioned, can cause some problems on some computers, and isn't quite as good at passing all the tests as Outpost or Sygate. -Clint God Bless Us All Clint Hamilton, Owner Want to exchange links with us? http://OrpheusComputing.com ) ----- Original Message ----- From: "rb47" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To one and all, Am wondering how important and do you gain anything extra by using a software firewall, such as Norton or Sysgate, when you already have a firewall built-in to a router that is being used, such as from NetGear or similar??? Likewise, can using a software firewall cause system problems when you already have a hardware firewall active??? This is something that I have not seen discussed one way or the other.
