Kieth, Many thanks for replying to my problem. I can certainly do what you
suggested ie turn off the system restore feature, reboot to remove the
history and then run AVG again but if I get rid of the history by turning
off the restore feature does that mean that there will be no restore points
left to which I can return if after running AVG I still get their alert
message. I have only had this machine and XP since end July so I know
roughly which restore points should not have been affected. Would it not
have the same affect if I chose a restore point prior to infection and
deleted the suspect ones or is that not possible? Another worry about using
the sys restore - can going back negate ms patches applied after the chosen
