How do the Windows sounds such as for opening file, closing file, etc., get played in Windows 98 SE? Is there a .WAV program that plays them or is there something built into Windows that plays them?
I've been having a problem where something gets hold of my sound card and won't release it. When this happens the Windows sounds won't play and if I try using a program like Winamp that needs the sound card I get a message saying that the sound card is being used by another program. I know I could get a multichannel sound card, but this problem really has me curious. The sound card is a Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold. I haven't been able to find a pattern that causes the problem but I have an idea it might have something to do with the sound card being accessed at the same time that the hard drive is being accessed.
