My wife is like you Harold in that she started using Netscape for browsing and email before IE ever became popular or OE came into being. When Netscape 6x came out she tried it for a while and then went back to 4.79, then Mozilla became stable and she now uses it. It doesn't have all the AOL stuff found in Netscape 7x which she doesn't use anyway plus it has excellent spam filters in the email client, pop-up blocking and tabbed browsing built in to the browser client.
I have not come across any web sites that will not work with Mozilla ever, some sites look differently between IE and Mozilla or Netscape but like I said I have not found any that would not work for either.
A great thing with Netscape/Mozilla Harold, is that for web design testing you can have multiple versions of the browser installed on one system, I've had Netscape 3, 4, 6 and Mozilla 1.5 installed at the same time with no problems. Just remember when you install each browser that you should place them in different directory's so one doesn't overwrite another :)
So if you have time to look at another browser then I think you would be happy with Mozilla http://www.mozilla.org/
AVG is a very competent checker, another free checker is the H+BEDV checker http://www.free-av.com/. These personal or non-commercial programs are free because the companies also rely on paid versions for business's or corporations that need desktop or server protection as well. Since I (and many of my clients) are on dialup the small update files now used by AVG are very convenient, what with all the wet weather the phone line's are taking a beating and downloads are strained.
It looks like Hugh's CSS guidance is proving well for you Harold, I think you both should be applauded.

Hugh again, thank you for all your html teaching regarding the table tags that will take the place of the marginwidth tags (those that are inside the body tags). Maybe gradually, as I review the files in individual sections of the site, I'll make those changes.
Same thing with the CSS tags that obviate the need for font tags within the page. Usually I don't do it but should I want to change the font size for any line within the page, I'm assuming that in that case, I would have to do that with a <font> </font> tag.
While I'm typing this, I have that AVG v*irus checker going; I've already removed all references to McAfee (which I really never used because I felt it was doing nothing). That AVG is beautiful (and it's the free version), and it found one v*irus in my Page1 folder, which I think it removed. I say that because upon re-running the checker, it found no v*irus.

What I found interesting is that when registering to get a registration code to complete the setup (all that's required is your name, an email address, and your country), giving them a hotmail address doesn't work. When I gave them this harold7 address, the registration was accepted. It took me four different registrations and two downloads to figure that one out.
It also checked that Read/Write CD I keep in my D-drive. That R/W CD is where I keep all backups and copies of whatever programs I've downloaded from the internet and which I think are valuable. AVG looks like one of the best things to come down the pike. My question is, why do they make this available to me; I haven't paid them a penny. I guess I can ask that about many of the freebies I've downloaded in my computer experience.
I'm still using Net 4.79 the reason is stupid but it "kinda" looks good to me; that's the only look I've ever seen. What's that about "old habits"? In time I'll probably graduate to Net 7.1 or Explorer.
