We are using 300 dpi and it still prints out very slow. I dont see how anyone ever gets data out of scanned files with printing at this extremely slow speed. Its the coming thing I guess but is a hell of a lot slower than flipping through a paper file.

Edwin,

Scanned pages will take longer than word files that just contain
text, the reason behind this is the amount of information that a scan
contains versus the amount of info that a typeface (font) contains. Scans
are made of pixels the more pixels or ppi, dpi, then the larger the file and
therefore the longer the file will take to 'RIP' and subsequently print.
There are a few ways of increasing the time to print. Scan your pages at a
lower resolution try starting from 400dpi, scan in bitmap (1bit) not
grayscale (8bit), if you are using distiller to create the pdfs lower the
downsampling resolution, by trial and error you will find the trade off
between the speed and the quality you require. Additionally there is OCR
software (other list members will be able to suggest some brands) available
that will convert your scans to fonts this will then achieve a speed more
likened to the word file processing times you are trying to achieve.

Good Luck

Martin
