If AOL is compressing the file what do the users do to decompress the file?
It's not really compression, it's a standard form of encoding (MIME) used by ALL major email clients. The difference is that older versions of AOL's email client doesn't fully support the standard (both inbound and outbound) and so you can end up with non-decoded information.
I went to my neighbors house to try to open it for her but couldn't get Winzip to open it.
StuffIt Expander for Windows (and Mac) can expand .mim files...
You should also make sure that folks have the latest AOL.
