Indeed it is incredibly confusing ; in the absolute, and compared to
previous versions too.

Maybe I've spent too much time with it, but (with a few exceptions that I've gotten used ot), I find Acrobat 6 to be MUCH more intuitive and logically laid out in terms of UI than any previous version!

I think so.

Because of the serious shortcomings of Acrobat 6 (which have been fixed with the patch only to a very limited extent) concerning my work, I may not have that many hours on Acrobat 6 as you do. But I have so far not seen much of intuitive and logical layout...

But, of course, you get used to everything...

Now, I agree, that for existing users there is a definitely learning curve as to where things have moved to from previous versions - but the new locations are (mostly) better for new users just coming to Acrobat.

Hmm... I think that is a serious misconception. One can assume that Acrobat is a mature software which can not get that much more additional users. And also, I assume that new users have to be trained anyway. Therefore, one creates more economic damage by forcing existing users to relearn everything. Also, considering the degree of popularity of Acrobat, and the variety of versions in use (where an update is non-enforceable ... if Adobe assumes that everybody just jumps for the new version, they are either very naive or very stupid ... probably both...), a change in user interface of such a high degree creates serious problems for support.

I am afraid Acrobat6 will be a turning point in the cycle of life of
Acrobat.

Yes, for the better I hope...

Well, it might be "the version one better forgets"...

ASN developers will remember too the extortion of money for Reader plugins

Well, it is a way to say "thank you" to all the developers who helped bringing the product where it is today. Or, it is a first step to kill off creativity.
